Welcome to our weekly edition of “This Week in Social Media” where we bring you the latest happenings in the exciting world of social media.
What’s New in Social Media This Week (August 3rd Week Edition)
Popular live-streaming app Blab Shuts Down: Blab which surpassed 3.9 million users in just one year shut down its operations last week. The live-streaming app was having a tough time competing against heavyweights such as Facebook Live, Twitter’s Periscope, MeerkatApp, and a few other players in the live-streaming segment. The founders have announced that they’ll be back with a new product which will be the “next evolution of Blab.”
Facebook confirms changes to the look of Pages: Facebook has changed the look of Pages “to make it easier for your visitors to interact with you and your Page.” The changes include an updated layout, improved navigation, and more prominent buttons.
Pinterest Introduces Promoted Video: Pinterest launched Promoted Video, a new way for businesses to “share their ideas with the people who are looking for them and make it easy for them to give these ideas a try.” Promoted Video will be first rolled out for businesses in the US and UK and will soon be launched to other countries as well.
Our Take on the News
The major news this week was the shut down of Blab, a popular live-streaming service with millions of users around the world. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as Blab was facing stiff competition from social media companies with their own live-streaming services that are experiencing widespread adoption. It’ll be interesting to see the next avatar of Blab.
The new look of Facebook Pages is refreshing and it also allows users easier access to the different tabs on the left panel.
